QR understands that the most effective means of helping customers feel safer on trains and at stations is to provide a uniformed security presence. QR operational staff are supported by members of the Queensland Police Railway Squad, QR Transit Service Officers, and contract security officers. » Queensland Police Service Railway Squad » Transit officers » QR operational staff » Private security officers
QR and the Queensland Police Service have enjoyed a working relationship for many years. The QR Citytrain network encompasses five police districts, with regional police attending incidents across the network. In 1992 the relationship between QR and QPS evolved into a formal partnership. The partnership represents a strategic alliance designed to manage both real and perceived levels of crime and antisocial behaviour across the QR network. Today, the QPS Railway Squad consists of approximately 55 sworn officers who proactively work to reduce risk and increase safety for customers and staff at stations and on board trains. The QPS Railway Squad officers achieve this through:

There are approximately 86 Transit Officers operating across the QR Citytrain network. QR operational staff include drivers, train guards and station staff. In particular, guards and station staff have an important role to play in the provision of an identifiable uniformed presence and customer service. Feel free to approach station staff or train guards with any queries or concerns you may have whilst on stations or trains. Train guards are to be found at the end of the third carriage on three car units, and at the front of the fourth carriage on six car units.
There are approximately 60 privately contracted security officers operating on Citytrain evening ‘Guardian Train’ Services. Guardian Train services have private security officers on board for the duration of the service and are marked by a ‘G’ in the timetable. Guardian trains cover approximately 40% of night time services across the entire Citytrain network. Security contractors on Guardian train services and on patrol at Citytrain stations are recognisable through their yellow shirts, grey ties and black pants.Key documents:
