Conditions of travel

The Transport Operations (Passenger Transport) Act 1994 and the Transport Infrastructure (Rail) Regulation 1996 details standards for purchase of tickets and behaviour on trains and at stations to make passenger travel comfortable and secure and to preserve the property of QR and its passengers. This legislation allows the issuing of on-the-spot fines for offences occurring under the Act, including:

Offence fine

Travelling by rail/bus without paying correct fare or obtaining a ticket	$150

Failure to pay correct fare if unable to do so before travel	$150

Travelling or attempting to travel using an invalid ticket	$150

Failure to produce ticket	$150

Entering or leaving railway property other than by a designated entrance or exit	$150

Crossing railway line other than by a designated crossing	$150

Dirtying seats of railway carriage/placing feet on seat of a railway carriage	$150

Consumption of food or drink in train	$150

Smoking on railway	$150

Putting graffiti on a railway	$150
